If you love The The, then how can you possibly pass on Matt Johnson's first show in 25 years? Simply put, you can't. But if you're like me, and love the swirling, encompassing, big-'80s synth sounds of The The's studio albums, the snarl of them, then this show will underwhelm you. The production is way stripped down--think "The The Unplugged--to the point of almost being mellow. The The? Mellow?? Right: this is not why we love The The! Still, he covers all the hits, his dialogue between songs was fetching, and since this is probably your one and only chance to see The The, to clap your hands for an artist that probably only you among your friends knows of and loves, then yes, go see them. And after you do, please tell me what the heck all of those screen projected images were about. His visuals seemed the stuff of pure afterthought to me.
Matt Johnson and his band did not disappoint. Sound was great, lighting was very low key, allowing you to focus on the music.
Good show. Played all the big hits. It was about 1hr 45 minute, including one encore. It wasn't all music. Matt Johnston talked to the audience. He was serious about no video and photography during the show. He pointed one guy out in the audience that he was rude for taking photos. Two guys near me were caught by the security several times trying to sneak photo/video. They were warned that they were going to be kicked out of the venue if they kept on doing it. So please respect the band and don't take any pics/video. Just relax and enjoy the show. Why would you want to watch the concert through a phone screen???
For some reason the sound was off. Many of this band's songs have defined base lines and sharp drum beats, sadly they were muted. Best song of the night was the acoustic guitar solo. They need to upgrade the mixing board and speaker system.
It was worth everything to go this show, the energy and passion the band put into everything with fantastic.
Worth the money. Would see them again and hope it isn't another 18 years!
The The! Matt Johnson and crew deliver a punchy yet finessed walk through the exquisite catalog. Absolutely phenomenal!
The sound was perfect The stage was perfect The band, absolutely brilliant! The show could not have been better!
Sounds good as ever! Loved the set list and his bantering with the crowd.
