Soen on Tour
There's a lot to like about Swedish prog metal band Soen. Although they're not as widely known as bands such as Ghost and A Perfect Circle, they share a penchant for ambitious songwriting, sweeping melodies and climactic choruses under the guise of metal.
Although they existed on the fringes of the Scandinavian metal scene in their early days, a series of ambitious studio albums and theatrical live performances significantly grew their worldwide fanbase from Spain and Latin America to the United States and beyond.
Soen's 2021 album, Imperial, was praised by fans and critics alike, with Metal Injection declaring, "Soen's ability to mingle alternative metal with a Swedish sense of epic majesty is their greatest weapon." Soaring tunes like "Monarch" are perfect for massive, emotive audience sing-alongs and escaping daily troubles through the power of music.
Soen Live in Concert
Originally founded by drummer Martin Lopez and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis in Sweden in 2004, Soen didn't really get going in earnest until 2010 due to band members' other competing priorities and personal commitments getting in the way of focusing on the band. Lead singer Joel Ekel?f and bassist Steve DiGiorgio joined Soen in the early 2010s. Not long after, they released the song "Fraccions," which was met with great enthusiasm because of its original approach to prog metal.
The band began writing more original material and signed to Finnish independent record label Spinefarm to release their debut album, Cognitive, in 2012, which caught critics by surprise with their unique take on prog metal music. The band then began touring religiously, playing all over Europe and beyond.
Weathering a few lineup changes in subsequent years, they put out more studio albums, including Lotus in 2019, the first featuring Canadian guitarist, Cody Lee Ford. Putting a new spin on what had by then become their trademark evocative melodies, lush instrumentation and poetic, introspective lyrics, Lotus was once again adored by critics.
In 2021, Soen released another full-length album, Imperial. Although the pandemic lockdown put a damper on Soen's touring schedule, they used their downtime to great effect, putting the finishing touches on their most ambitious album to date.

Second time seeing SOEN here in the US and they did not disappoint! Awesome show. Would highly recommend traveling to see them.
Absolutely perfect show. Their beautiful lyrics and powerful songs are even more impactful live.
Thank you to the band for the informal and casual meet and greet. Your music speaks for itself — Beyond Outstanding. And the gracious way you greet and interact with your fans takes the whole concert experience to the next level. Please come back to Boston.
Soen was an excellent experience! All of the band was personal and the venue was great! Hope Soen will make it to Birmingham Al soon. Will see them again ??
First time seen Soen live, it was a great experince, the musicianship is incredible and they play 100% live, what a concept! Live music should be LIVE, no tracks!!!
Do your self a favor and go see Soen if they come near your town...or travel..its worth it! One of the best sounding concerts i saw this year...no backing tracks or gimmicks. Just talent musicians playing real music...and they rock! Cant wait to see them again sometime!
This was such an amazing show we’ve been waiting for them to come to nyc for a long time and it was everything and then more ???????????? can’t wait for them to come back
From start to finish, Soen impressed the crowd at the Gramercy Theatre in NYC. The band was especially tight and very enthusiastic to be playing New York for the first time in their career. I have personally been blown away by their recorded output since discovering them earlier this year on YouTube. Seeing them perform live gave me even more appreciation for their mastery of their craft. The setlist was a strong selection mixing newer rockers with moodier and slower selections highlighting their latest album, Imperial, quite heavily. I was personally also impressed by the quality of the live sound mix. After experiencing several subpar live mixes with my last few concerts by other bands at different venues, this mix was pristine. Each instrument was crystal clear which was made even more impressive by the fact that Soen is a five piece band. It was great to see former Opeth drummer, Martin Lopez, make such a statement with this band which, in my humble opinion, has been more artistically/musically successful over the past 12 years than his former band. Awesome concert and overall experience!
I had a great time at the concert which was delayed but once it started was great!
