South London singer-songwriter Lola Young harmonises hook-laden tales of vulnerability over ambient electronic beats. She started writing music when she was 11, and by the age of 13 had already won a national open mic competition. With music being her passion, she went on to attend The BRIT School (Amy Winehouse, Rex Orange County) where she spent her time finding herself creatively and stylistically.
Young's strong musical prowess partly comes from her dedication to finetuning her abilities as a performer and resilience in knowing what she wants with her sound. This shines through in bittersweet 'Blind Love', a sombre reflection of a failed relationship haunted by stripped-back vocals and airy keys. Her influences of Joni Mitchell, Prince, Frank Ocean and Anderson .Paak are all lyricists first, citing their poetism as a major inspiration when writing.
Her most recent single 'FAKE' sees her work with acclaimed Paul Epworth (Paul McCartney, Adele), and overtake the guitar-powered theatrics with her drama-filled lyricism, making the track perfect for a Tarantino hit.
With the follow-up to her 'Intro' EP still in the works with Epworth, Young soundtracked the 2021 John Lewis Christmas advert with a haunting cover of Giorgio Moroder and Philip Oakey's 'Together In Electric Dreams'.
She is a really good singer but she only sang a few songs and had very low energy, I think that’s not fair to us that payed $ and took time to go see her :(
Omg. Cried. Loved. Died. It was beautiful. Can’t get over.
Lolaaaaaaaaaa!!! Cannot wait to watch you blow up more than you already are. She was amazing ! TLA was easy. They have it down to a science there for a smaller venue. All the staff for nice and helpful.
Lola Young is seriously just a breath of fresh air in music these days and is authentically the real deal. I appreciate the perfect and the imperfect moments all the same. One thing I could have done without was the crowd being so young they just don't seem to value time out like we do. I will never understand paying money to go to a show and carrying on a conversation through the whole show, it was so annoying that it actually was a distraction and louder than Lola a lot of the show. I also don't understand watching a show through your phone while you record the whole thing. It was all so weird but Lola Young was off the charts.
If you haven't seen Lola Young live you are missing out! She has an authentic and raw presence and fills the room with her incredible vocals. Her songs are fresh and catchy, but with deep and meaningful lyrics. The only complaint I have is that the show wasn't longer!
